Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 97

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 97. Psalm 97 is a psalm of praise and is also an anonymous psalm. We do not know who the author is. After reading the entire psalm I will break it down verse by verse. Verse 1 reminds us that God is sovereign and that he knows everything that is going on. Verses 2-6 remind us that God is the God of judgement and that He is the ultimate judge. Verse 7 reminds us that many people (in our world today) have idols - basically anything that we put above God in our lives. It could be our jobs, alcohol, drugs, or professional or college sports, etc. Verse 9 reminds us that we are to exalt God and give Him praise on a regular (if not continuous) basis. Verse 10 reminds us that God hates evil - and that is He hates evil, we should as well. It also tells us that if we follow the commandments of the Lord (the Bible) we will be delivered out of the hand of the wicked. Verse 12 closes with the reminder that we are to rejoice in Him (and His goodness) forever.
