Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. On today's podcast we will be going over Psalm 84. Psalm 84 is one of 11 psalms that are attributed to the sons of Korah. It is one of the "Zion" psalms - a psalm that celebrates God's presence in Jerusalem (specifically the temple that Solomon built during his life on Earth). After reading this beautiful psalm I will break it down. Verse 1 specifically talks about Solomon's glorious temple (it must truly have been a sight to behold)! Verse 2 talks about the longing that the author has for the living God (it is my prayer that everyone listening to today's psalm that they have this attitude of praise to God as well). Verse 3 reminds me of the trip to Europe my wife and I took this past summer. Whenever you go to a famous cathedral there will always be lots of birds around it. It is almost they can literally sense the presence of God there. Verse 4 talks about the blessings that God will shower you with - if you put your trust in Him. We no longer have to go to a building to enter the presence of God - you simply need to seek Him out and He will be with you. Verses 5-7 speak about people who would actually take a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to view the awesomeness of Solomon's temple. Verse 9 is a shadowing of the coming of Jesus Himself. Verse 10 reminds us that it is better to be in the presence of God (and His son Jesus) than anywhere else on Earth. Verse 11 reminds us that God will never withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. Verse 12 culminates this beautiful psalm by reminding us that if we put our trust in Him we will be blessed! Amen to that!
