Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 76

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 76. Psalm 76 is a psalm of praise, and is ascribed to the worship leader, Asaph. It was originally penned to the Chief Musician and was to be played while accompanied by stringed instruments. After reading this psalm I will go over the commentary found in my Bible (the Nelson Study Bible). This psalm is divided into four parts - 1. a celebration of the center of worship in Jerusalem - This city is the center of Jewish heritage and this is where God Himself said that He would dwell with His people; 2. a celebration of the victories of God against His enemies - verse 6 reminds us of the demise of Pharoah's army after Moses delivered His people Israel from the hand of the Egyptians. 3. a description of the fear of the earth at the anger of God - Friends we all need to have a healthy fear of God. We need to acknowledge Him for who He is - and come to the conclusion that we are not God; & 4. an exhortation to the righteous to worship the Lord - Friends, we should always be ready to give praise to God. We should testify as to His goodness and celebrate all He has done for us.
