Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 143

Welcome to Lesson from the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 143. Psalm 143 is attributed to King David of Israel. It is a psalm of lament and also a psalm of penitence (David knew that He had made mistakes). He is asking God for His mercy and letting God know that his spirit is wearing out. He needs some encouragement - he remembers how God has been there for him in the past and is confident that He will be with him again. My three takeaways from Psalm 143 are these:
1. Answer me quickly, O Lord! My spirit fails! (friends, we need God to make it through every day - we simply cannot live life on our own successfully).
2. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. (Friends, when we are enduring hardships in our life, our response should be to go to God in prayer - and ask for His help)
3. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. (it is one thing to know what to do & another to actually do it. Doing what God asks you to do may take you out of your comfort zone (because it isn't what you've done in the past). We need instruction of how to actually fulfill the purposes that God has given us to do in our lives.
