Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 136

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 136. Psalm 136 is an anonymous psalm, but it is a psalm that reminds us of God's goodness towards His chosen people (the Israelites) throughout history. It was originally performed in a synagogue with the worship leader (could be the rabbi) stating the first part of each verse and the congregation chanting the refrain. In many translations the refrain is "For His mercy endures forever," but I have a new Bible (the ESV study Bible) and my Bible says "for His steadfast love endures forever." Whether it is His mercy towards us, or His steadfast (never changing) love, He does love us. Three things I ask that everyone consider are:
1. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good (friends, everything we have is due to God's goodness towards us).
2. He is merciful towards us and also shows us grace.
3. He meets our every need and enjoys our time with Him (He knows what we have need of, and is blessed when we honor and praise Him).
