Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 129

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 129. Psalm 129 is the 10th of 15 consecutive psalms that are collectively entitled A Song of Ascents. Psalm 129 is an anonymous psalm (as we do not know the author of this psalm). This collection of 15 psalms was originally written for the Jewish pilgrims who made the annual journey to Jerusalem to praise and worship God. Psalm 129 is a reminder of the goodness of God - and how He has always taken care of his chosen people. By the end of this psalm there are three things I ask that you consider:
1. Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth. (the Jewish people have always been under attack in some way, shape, or form. Many times in the Bible we are told that the Jewish people are the people that God chose to be His special people).
2. The Lord is righteous; He has cut in pieces the cords of the wicked. (even though the Jewish people have always been under attack, they have never been overcome by their enemies - that is because God has always looked out for them).
3. We bless you in the name of the Lord. (Just as God has always shown His favor and blessing on the Jewish people, we are to bless people as well. Because the Holy Spirit now dwells in each of our hearts, we have the ability to bless all people).
