Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 127. Psalm 127 is the 8th of 15 consecutive psalms which are collectively called the Songs of Ascent. Psalm 127 is the 2nd of only 2 psalms which are attributed to King Solomon of the country of Israel. These psalms were originally designed for the Israelite pilgrims who would take the annual pilgrimage to the city of Jerusalem. The three takeaways I have from Psalm 127 are these:
1. Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it. (we are to do everything as unto the Lord - not for ourselves)
2. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
3. Children are a heritage of the Lord (friends, at the time the psalms were written children were often viewed as a blessing of God upon the family. In general the more kids you had, the greater you were viewed as having been blessed by God).
