Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 122

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 122. Psalm 122 is the 3rd of 15 consecutive psalms which are called A Song of Ascents. This particular psalm is attributed to King David - who is given credit for four of these 15 psalms. These psalms are a tribute to all of the people who make the pilgrimage to the city of Jerusalem (sometimes called Zion). This is where Christianity started and is still considered the hub of Christianity today. After reading this psalm in its entirety I came up with three takeaways I ask that you consider:
1. Let us go into the house of the Lord (although this psalm is referring to the city of Jerusalem, we could be referring to any place of worship in our world today. In fact, the Bible refers to "the church" as the individual people (you and me) that frequent these buildings.
2. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; May they prosper who love you (friends, the city of Jerusalem is the hub of Christianity - but it is in a place of the world where many Jews of the world live (and thus) we must pray for this city.
3. Peace be within your wall, Prosperity within your palaces. (although we are specifically speaking of the city of Jerusalem, I believe we can also hold onto the fact that God wants us, as individuals, to have peace within our hearts as well, and He also wants us to prosper in our lives as well (see 3rd John, verse 2).
