Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 111. Psalm 111 is an anonymous psalm. It is a wisdom psalm, and could also be referred to as a praise psalm. It only has 10 verses. After reading the psalm I will begin breaking down the psalm. Verse 1 reminds us that we should be consistently giving praise to God. Several verses between verses 2 & 9 talk about the Exodus, and how God provided for His people Israel during these 40 years. The three takeaways I would like to leave you with are these:
1. The Lord is gracious and full of compassion (Friends, I believe we should be this way also).
2. He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever (Friends, we always need to be mindful that God sent His son, Jesus, to redeem all of us from all of our sins).
3. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (This verse is very similar to the Book of Job - Chapter 28, verse 28). Having a reverential fear of God is the beginning of(and the essence) of wisdom in our lives.
