158. We Should ask God for Wisdom - November 9, 2022

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 9. I will then key in on verse 10: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. I will refer back to Proverb 1:7 which states that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. I will then go over the progression that must take place. We begin with knowledge, which grows into understanding, which, when used and applied, becomes wisdom. I will make reference that ordinarily when we think of someone having wisdom, we think of a person who is a bit older, or mature. I will then go back to the Old Testament, specifically the book of 1 Kings, Chapter 3. I will read verses 1-15 in their entirety. These verses go over the ac count of God encountering Solomon in a dream (or vision). God asked Solomon what he would like. Solomon, in humility, told God that he was a little child, and needed help in ruling the Kingdom of Israel. I will then go over three important points to ponder based on this passage of scripture. 1. Solomon showed wisdom by making a treaty with Pharaoh, king of Egypt. the Bible makes reference to the fact that there was peace during the reign of Solomon, and the decision to make a treaty with Pharaoh helped that to come to pass. 2. Solomon asked God for wisdom (James 1:5). I will make reference to James' comment that states that if we lack wisdom to ask God for it, and He will gladly give it to you. 3. God was pleased with Solomon (for asking for wisdom). God was SO pleased that Solomon asked Him for wisdom that he also gave him honor and richer - to the tune that Solomon is considered by many to be the richest man (as well as the wisest man) to ever live on the face of the Earth.
