Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 17. I will then key in on verse 27 - He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. I will then go to the book of 2nd Kings (found in the Old Testament), Chapter 5, verses 1-14. This is a wonderful story about a man named Naaman, the commandeer of the army for the king of Syria. He is a mighty man of valor, and very well respected - especially by the king of Syria. During his latest escapades, Naaman has taken captive a young girl who he will give to his wife as a servant. After reading all 14 of these verses, I will bring up four very important lessons that we can learn from this passage of scripture. 1. The young girl plans an important role. In verse 3, this young girl says to Naaman's wife: "If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy." When Naaman hears this he is very excited. Could he possibly be healed of his leprosy? 2. The king of Israel tears his clothes. When Naaman goes to the king of Syria and explains to him that the prophet Elisha (who has taken up residence in the capital city of Syria) could heal him of his leprosy, the king of Syria intervenes in this matter and writes a letter to the king of Israel. However, when the king of Israel receives the letter, he doesn't think of Elisha, but only thinks about himself. He tears his clothes because he knows that he can not possibly cure this man of his leprosy. Elisha finds out that this letter has been sent and suggests to the king that Naaman be sent to him, and he will heal him.
