Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 3. I will then key in on verses 5 & 6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. I will talk about my story of salvation and how, initially, I gave much of my heart to the Lord, but I would not give Him certain areas of my life. I will then transition to the Book of James, where we will begin Chapter 4 today, verses 1-6. I will read three verses in their entirety. After that, I will go over three very important lessons that can be learned from these verses: 1. There is a constant battle in our souls - (this is well depicted in John 10:10 - For the thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly). Satan will constantly be doing all that he can do to divert us from our call of God. 2. Ask God for the right reasons - (I will go over Psalm 37:4 and James 5:16) - these verses tell us that God will give us the desires of our heart. God wants us to pray to Him - but He will never answer a prayer that goes against the word of God (to pray for someone else's spouse because your marriage isn't going well). He will answer our prayers, but He will only answer prayers that will be helpful for us. 3. We need to humble ourselves - 1 Peter 5: 6-7. We need to come to God in prayer in humility and NOT in a boastful manner. God resists the proud, and won't have anything to do with anyone who approaches Him in that manner.
