[00:00:07] Welcome to Lessons From The Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. On this podcast we will be going over the book of Psalms.
[00:00:21] Let's open and try it. Father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this song today.
[00:00:27] Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them.
[00:00:34] I ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This is Psalm 54 beginning in verse 1.
[00:00:41] Save me, O God, by your name and vindicate me by your strength. Here my prayer, O God, give ear to the words of my mouth.
[00:00:55] For strangers have risen up against me and oppressors have sought after my life. They have not set God before them.
[00:01:06] Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is with those who uphold my life. He will repay my enemies for their evil.
[00:01:18] Cut them off in your truth. I will freely sacrifice to you. I will praise your name, O Lord, for it is good.
[00:01:29] For He has delivered me out of all trouble and my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.
[00:01:39] For Psalm 54 is a Psalm that is attributed to King David and King David actually is praying to God for deliverance from his enemies.
[00:01:51] And the background of this is David is a fugitive in King Saul's site.
[00:02:00] And King Saul has been pursuing David and David and his men go out and hide in the wilderness.
[00:02:08] And the people that live in that surrounding area actually let King Saul know about it.
[00:02:17] And so Saul and his men are going to search out for David.
[00:02:24] But this Psalm tells us that David had his prayer answered and he was delivered from his enemies.
[00:02:33] Let's break this Psalm down, beginning in verse 1.
[00:02:36] Save me, O God, by your name and vindicate me by your strength.
[00:02:44] There is a verse in the Bible that says anything is possible to him who believes.
[00:02:52] Friends, God is capable of changing anything that is going on in your life if you are willing to seek him in prayer and ask him for help.
[00:03:04] Verse 2, hear my prayer, O God, give ear to the words of my mouth.
[00:03:13] Friends, in one of St. Paul's letters he actually says, pray without ceasing.
[00:03:21] And that plea is for us individually and that can pertain to us today is that we are to pray to God.
[00:03:30] And our lives should basically be a continual prayer.
[00:03:36] We should have God in mind whatever we do in life.
[00:03:41] We know that God watches everything we do.
[00:03:45] He is there for us if we ask for help, so let's give him our undivided attention.
[00:03:51] Verse 3, for strangers have risen up against me and oppressors have sought after my life.
[00:04:00] They have not set God before them, say law.
[00:04:05] Now, say law tells us to meditate on what we've just read.
[00:04:09] So let's read it one more time, verse 3, for strangers have risen up against me.
[00:04:15] And oppressors have sought after my life.
[00:04:20] And friends here, King David, is referring to Saul and his army.
[00:04:26] They were after him.
[00:04:29] And it's they did seek his life.
[00:04:32] They actually were planning on killing him when they found him.
[00:04:37] Verse 4, behold, God is my helper.
[00:04:41] The Lord is with those who uphold my life.
[00:04:46] And friends, we need to have people in our lives like that who will be on our side and who we can go to if we have a need or need some help.
[00:04:59] Verse 6, I will freely sacrifice to you.
[00:05:04] I will praise your name, O Lord, for it is good.
[00:05:08] And friends, we should always be ready to give praise to God and to seek him if we ever have a need.
[00:05:18] Verse 7, for he has delivered me out of all trouble.
[00:05:24] And my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.
[00:05:30] So here David is declaring that his prayer has been answered and he has been delivered out of all trouble.
[00:05:38] What an awesome, awesome song.
[00:05:42] Friends, please join me again soon as we take a look at song 55.
