[00:00:07] Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host on this podcast

[00:00:14] We will be going over the book of Psalms

[00:00:20] Soap and prayer father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this song today

[00:00:26] Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them

[00:00:33] I ask this in Jesus name. Amen

[00:00:36] This is Psalm 48 beginning in verse 1

[00:00:41] Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God in his holy mountain

[00:00:49] beautiful in elevation the joy of the whole earth is

[00:00:54] Mount Zion on the sides of the north the city of the great king

[00:01:00] God is in her palaces. He is known as her refuge

[00:01:05] For behold the kings assembled they passed by together

[00:01:11] They saw it and so they marveled they were troubled they hastened away

[00:01:17] fear took hold of them there and

[00:01:21] Pain as a woman in birth pangs as when you break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind

[00:01:29] as we have heard so we have seen in the city of the Lord of hosts in the city of our God

[00:01:38] God will establish it forever

[00:01:42] Say law we have thought oh God on your loving kindness in the midst of your temple

[00:01:49] According to your name. Oh God

[00:01:52] So is your praise to the ends of the earth

[00:01:56] Your right hand is full of righteousness

[00:02:00] Let Mount Zion rejoice let the daughters of Judah be glad because of your judgments

[00:02:08] Walk about Zion and go all around her

[00:02:13] Count her towers mark well her bulwarks

[00:02:17] Consider her palaces that you may tell it to the generation following for this is God

[00:02:24] Our God forever and ever he will be our guide even to death

[00:02:32] friends Psalm 48 goes along with Psalms 46 and 47 and

[00:02:39] three great Psalms of praise to God and

[00:02:44] His son Jesus

[00:02:46] these three Psalms talk about God's love for his special city

[00:02:52] Jerusalem and that city is identified on a number of occasions in this particular Psalm

[00:02:58] Let's break this Psalm down verse by verse

[00:03:02] Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God in his holy mountain

[00:03:11] beautiful in elevation the joy of the whole earth is

[00:03:15] Mount Zion on the sides of the north the city of the great king and

[00:03:22] That city is Jerusalem

[00:03:25] God is in her palaces. He is known as her refuge

[00:03:31] For behold the kings assembled they pass by together

[00:03:36] They saw it and so they marveled they were troubled they hastened away

[00:03:42] fear took hold of them there and

[00:03:45] Pain as of a woman in birth pangs as when you break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind as

[00:03:55] We have heard so we have seen in the city of the Lord of hosts in the city of our God

[00:04:04] God will establish it forever

[00:04:08] say law and friends

[00:04:11] Jerusalem is

[00:04:13] Where we should be praying for the Bible tells us we should pray for that city

[00:04:20] Long ago God established the Jewish nation as his special people

[00:04:26] But once we receive Jesus into our hearts

[00:04:30] We are melded in to that family

[00:04:34] Once we are in the family

[00:04:37] We can believe and receive all the promises that the Bible tells us are ours

[00:04:43] Let's go to verse 9 we have thought oh God on your loving kindness in the midst of your temple

[00:04:52] According to your name. Oh God

[00:04:55] So is your praise to the ends of the earth your right hand is full of righteousness

[00:05:02] Let Mount Zion rejoice let the daughters of Judah be glad because of your judgments

[00:05:11] friends if

[00:05:12] You are struggling in a certain area of your life

[00:05:16] God will reign you in if you look to him in your time of need

[00:05:24] If you have a need pray to God let him know about it and he will be there for you

[00:05:32] Let's go to verse 12 walk about Zion and go all around her

[00:05:39] Count her towers mark well her bulwarks

[00:05:44] Consider her palaces that you may tell it to the generations following for this is

[00:05:52] God our God forever and ever

[00:05:56] He will be our guide even to death and

[00:06:00] Friends when I think of that last verse he will be our guide. I think of Psalm

[00:06:07] 23 where it says the Lord is

[00:06:11] my shepherd

[00:06:14] Friends if you have a need

[00:06:16] Jesus is our guide. He is our shepherd

[00:06:22] Learn to follow him

[00:06:26] Friends, please join me again soon as we take a look at Psalm 49
