[00:00:00] Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host on this podcast. We will be going over the book of Psalms.
[00:00:18] Let's open and pray. Father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this Psalm today. Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them. I ask this in Jesus' name, amen.
[00:00:37] This is Psalm 47, beginning in verse 1. Oh, clap your hands all you peoples. Shout to God with the voice of triumph. For the Lord most high is awesome. He is a great king over all the earth.
[00:00:56] He will subdue the peoples under us and the nations under our feet. He will choose our inheritance for us, the excellence of Jacob whom he loves. Say, Lord, God has gone up with a shout. The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
[00:01:18] Sing praises to God. Sing praises. Sing praises to our king. Sing praises. For God is the king of all the earth. Sing praises with understanding.
[00:01:33] God reigns over the nations. God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the people have gathered together. The people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God. He is greatly exalted.
[00:01:53] Friends, this Psalm is attributed to the sons of Korah and is a Psalm of praise. And I want to break this Psalm down into two parts. Verses 1 through 4. Oh, clap your hands all you peoples. Shout to God with the voice of triumph. For the Lord most high is awesome.
[00:02:21] He is a great king over all the earth. He will subdue the peoples under us and the nations under our feet. He will choose our inheritance for us, the excellence of Jacob whom he loves. Say, Lord.
[00:02:39] Friends, the words say, law in the Bible means to meditate on what you've just read. And the wonderful part about verses 1 through 4 is that God is awesome. God is worthy to be praised. He is the king and the ruler of this world.
[00:03:03] Let's go to verses 5 through 9. God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God. Sing praises. Sing praises to our king. Sing praises. For God is the king of all the earth. Sing praises with understanding.
[00:03:27] God reigns over the nations. God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the people have gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God. He is greatly exalted.
[00:03:47] Friends, these verses tell us that there will come a time when every knee will bow to the name of Jesus, our Creator, our King, our Savior. And friends, we know how the story ends. The story ends when the devil is defeated and Jesus will rule in eternity.
[00:04:17] God is God. We are not. We are to praise him for his goodness and for all that he does for us in our lives.
[00:04:30] Friends, please join me again soon as we take a look at Psalm 48.
