Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill & Judy Kelley. On today's podcast we will be going over Proverb 27. Judy will share on her favorite verse of Proverb 27; she will talk about the blessing it is to be able to speak into the lives of our grandkids. She will discuss that God has shown her to be "diligent" in her Bible reading. I will key in on verse 2 of Proverb 27 - Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. I will share the delight I had at the thermal gardens in the town of Lenti, Hungary this summer. Finally, I will share the five people who will share their testimonies during the month of October. I will inform people that I have completed the first 70 psalms in my Lessons From the Psalms podcast, and that I have now read 580 verses of the King James Bible. on my YouTube channel - Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. We will close with Judy giving the invitation to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Wisdom Today. My name is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. In this podcast, we will be exploring the book of Proverbs.
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you Lord. We want to say thank you for this day that you have made.
[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And we want to say blessings to everyone who is listening to this podcast today. May they hear what you would have them here and may we speak what the Holy Spirit would have us to say today in Jesus' name. Amen.
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Today we are reading Proverbs 27.
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: A stone is heavy and sand is weighty but a fool's wrath is heavier than both of them.
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Rath is cruel and anger-attaurant but who is able to stand before jealousy? Open rebukes better than love carefully concealed.
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place.
[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Ointment and perfume delight the heart and the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity.
[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Better as a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: My son be wise and make my heart glad that I may answer him who reproaches me.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: A prudent man for sees evil and hides himself. The simple pass on and are punished.
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger and hold it in pledge when he is surety for a seductress.
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: He who blesses his friend with a loud voice rising early in the morning.
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It will be counted a curse to him. A continual dripping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Whoever restrains her restrains the wind and grasps oil with his right hand.
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: As iron sharpens iron so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend,
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: So he who waits on his master will be honored.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: As in water, face reflects face so a man's heart reveals the man.
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Hell and destruction are never full. So the eyes of man are never satisfied.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold and a man is valued by what others say of him.
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Though you grind a full in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain,
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_00]: yet his foolishness will not depart from him.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Be diligent to know the state of your flocks and attend to your herds.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_00]: For riches are not forever nor does a crown endure to all generations.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: When the hay is removed and the tender grass shows itself and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in,
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: the lambs will provide your clothing and the goats the price of a field.
[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You shall have enough goats milk for your food, for the food of your household and the nourishment of your maid's servants.
[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Hon this is a wonderful proverb and was there a particular verse that you would like to go over today?
[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Well there's just it's very rich. There's so much here.
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Hard to pick a verse but something that just stuck out to me today was verse 10 which says,
[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend and I was thinking about my mother's friend Jerry and how we befriended her.
[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And we took care of her, helped her communicated with her, included her, just made her feel tried to make her feel part of the family and she was very special to us.
[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I know that you had a long relationship with her. She was your pastor's wife growing up and I know that she was very special to your mom and you know your mom really went out of her way
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Once she lost her husband to you know basically be your best friend and she was rarely really close to her and I know that you took after that and you saw the way your mother was with her and you chose to do that as well.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes Bill what was your verse today that spoke to you?
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Well I kind of like verse 2 and it says, let another man praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And I know sometimes in the past before becoming a Christian and even sometimes now it's really easy to you know if you do something well to just kind of kick caught up in yourself and and to be prideful and boastful and talk about things.
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But that is not how God wants this to be. You know the Bible says, God resist the proud but he gives grace to the humble.
[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And so just go about doing your business, do the right thing be gracious, be kind, be loving and wait for people to praise you and not your own lips. Your thoughts on that hunt.
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Tell a little degree with your bill.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay well this is the segment I kind of like to talk about our journeys and this is the third month we've talked about this Judy and I went to Europe in June and we are now at the end of September.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So today I kind of wanted to do things a little bit different. I want to talk about our journey and a hungry and we went to a place called lenty in hungry and one of the days that we were there.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: We kind of took a step back and we went to what are called thermal bags. And so basically all we did all day it was kind of like a spa type environment and they had a bunch of pools inside and a bunch of pools outside and we just made the decision.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to really do anything else today except just relax and enjoy ourselves and what a blessing that was. Why don't you talk to the audience about your memories of that day?
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Well I needed that day for one thing because Bill's a go get her he wanted to do and see everything and we had walked and walked and walked and walked and I was having some issues with my legs at that point.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was just I think probably it was because I hadn't built up for that much walking and so we needed to have a day off and it was really nice to get into the baths and just soak up the warmth of the pools. That was really special.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I remember is they kind of had eucalyptus in a couple of these pools and you could smell the eucalyptus and you could literally smell.
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And when they put that eucalyptus inside that water it almost kind of like healing water and you actually kind of feel it get inside your skin and literally it is just so soothing.
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know I almost actually fell asleep inside the pool and I had my feet on the on the on the edge of the pool and I was just laying down and I was just so relaxed I almost fell asleep.
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: It was just an awesome day and awesome day so any other thoughts that you want to talk about.
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Well just that the whole trip thinking back on it. It was we saw a lot we did a lot it was fun to go into Sabineo too and found out later that that's where Melania Trump was from we didn't have any idea we probably could have gone to her hometown but we didn't know at the time found out that later.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And going into Sabineo and then going into Croatia and that was really really fun.
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So anyway my promise to you guys listening today as we will spend next month as well talking a little bit about our trip to Europe and by the time we meet in two months we will go on another short trip and then we will talk about that trip as well.
[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So what I'd like to do is the spirit has been telling me that one of the things we should do on this monthly podcast and I kind of entitled this our Ministry update.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And of course for those of you listening to the first time Judy and I are recent graduates of Caras Bible College.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_01]: We graduated May of last year in 23 in Colorado and since then we've been back in Florida about a year and a half.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But since then I have continued on in my podcast, I am in the word pretty much all the time but I know having gone to Bible College.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's very important for you as well to get into the Bible and I thought what we could do is a monthly segment about what the Lord is telling you each of us through our Bible reading each month.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_01]: So honey go ahead and take it away. What has Lord been speaking to you?
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's been talking to me about just being more diligent about reading the word. We do it together but it's our alone time too and Bill does get into it every day with his podcast and then my daily reading is in the morning.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm trying to read through a certain Bible that I picked out for this year and may not make it through this entire year because there's a lot of other information in it and I'm trying to read that along with it also so it may take me a year and a half to finish the whole Bible.
[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's just so important. It's really, really important and you find out when you read the word that you read about all these great people in the past and you see that they were human. They were human just like we are.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And I love the way the Bible just doesn't hide anything or cover anything up. It's it's there for you to see everything people's successes, their failures, how they should have done maybe things differently and it just is.
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just a rich with that and that's what I really love about it.
[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm right now in my daily podcast. I'm going through the book of Jose and I just can't help but think you know a lot of people.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I've heard the comment that you know the Old Testament really isn't relevant today and a lot of people don't want to spend a lot of time in the Old Testament.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: But the Old Testament in my eyes really is where it all started. It all started there and when you sit there and think of the gospels, you know Jesus always quoted from the Old Testament.
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He quoted from Isaiah. He quoted from Deuteronomy and you know he quoted from Numbers and you know we need to have that foundation.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I really would like to encourage anyone that isn't in a regular reading program.
[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I invite you to just check out the Old Testament and I'll even go a little step further. You know now I know it's important to read Proverbs and Psalms and I have a podcast for each of those but also try some of the smaller books.
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You know you have Ruth which is only four chapters. Very easy to read. You have the book of Jonah which is only four chapters but what a powerful book.
[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Jonah is, you know I really like the story of Jonah. He's swallowed up by a whale for three days and then you know if you want to go to a little bit longer.
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The book of Daniel has 12 chapters but there are so many important stories in the book of Daniel. So, honey if you would go ahead I know you've mentioned pretty much every month that since we left Caris Bible College, your primary ministry is to help out your daughter and with a four grandkids.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So, I want that to be a monthly part of our podcast. So go ahead and just talk a little bit about spending time with the grandkids. What are your fondest memories just since we met four weeks ago?
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Well the other morning I woke up and I was just thinking I had one of the grandchildren sleeping on a mat by our bed and I woke up thinking what a blessing that I get to be a part of these children's lives.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's a super blessing to me that I get to do that and you know God knows the desires of our heart and he's made it come true for me.
[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I've been able to be here and we did take the time away to go to Colorado and we were in Oklahoma for a while and that's the time when they were in the upper east. They were in New York, Washington, DC area.
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: So we weren't close at that time and now we are and that's wonderful and it's nice really to be close to Bill Stodder and her family and my son, in fact, last Sunday he wanted me to come up and help him do a project.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And that was a super blessing to spend the time with him, my grown son, who's married and you know just the fact that he wanted me to come and the time we spent together. That was just very special.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_01]: You know I think I think it was so special I think you should go into a few details tell the audience exactly what you did since you don't really get a chance to see him all that much.
[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Well his wife has been for years now working on her residency and so they've been kind of having a long-distance relationship.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_00]: But now she's back and they've had some vacations. I've been wonderful and then she went on a little trip and so there was time when he was alone again. He's been working on a house just super hard and he's so talented. He's been redoing that house from every single bit of it from the electrical, the plumbing, you name it, he's done it.
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And so it just needed some organization needed some help because things are small house, but he's doing everything right. And it was just really a special ago there and that's one of my things might want to make gifts maybe is I like to organize I like things organized I don't like chaos. So it was a special that he thought of me and thought that would be fun for me to come up and help him out.
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And when you talk about organization, all three of our kids have taken advantage of you I think over the years and allowed you to help them out in their home to straighten things out and organize.
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_01]: You know at times you've gone through refrigerator and you've gone through the freezer and you go in and help the grandkids clean out their rooms and their closets and you know all three kids, you know my daughter as well as your daughter and your son.
[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_01]: They all enjoy that about you and always enjoy your help getting ready.
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Well I'm glad they do because they could get offended maybe but they don't and they don't want to wear me out and they don't take advantage of me.
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you said something about that word advantage, but it's not that they take advantage of me. That's what I want to do and they I feel useful so that's really a good thing it makes me feel it just warms my heart to help other people out like that.
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_01]: You know and it's so funny, you know that is what ministry is and for those of you listening and if you don't know how God can use you.
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a way God can use you if you are a parent if you are a grandparent allow yourself to ask your child if they are grown if you can help.
[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Right if you can help them organize of course, you know if they're adults we don't have the right to step in and do the things we need to ask permission.
[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I did with my son I said would you like me to come up and so that's what I try to do is make sure I ask if they would like it and if they do great.
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I would be more than happy to help and I think that's one thing that God's been pointing out to me.
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Our ministry really is to minister those people that are right around us.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Our family, our friends, our neighbors, the people that we see every day we don't need to be thinking about unless he puts it on your heart.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_00]: That we need to travel across the world to do this but we need to be productive, we need to be always following the Holy Spirit every day.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And how to minister to those people that are right around us all the time including our husband or wife.
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_01]: You know when that's that's so true but just people in general and I'm going to go ahead and throw the lady that lives across the street from us.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_01]: She's one of the people that participates in our bi-weekly Bible study here at the house.
[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But she has found out that on Thursday which is my golf day with my buddies from church and she found out that on Thursdays that I go golfing.
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And now she's asking you to spend time with her every Thursday to go out and eat lunch, go shopping, just minister to people.
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean just love on people and give people an opportunity to show the love of God through little things like that.
[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Right and she ministers to me so that's really good about it is that we can never outgive God always gives back to us more than we give.
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And what are your thoughts bill about what you're doing as far as your podcast and all that lately?
[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know like like we always talk about that your ministry is with the grandkids and my ministry which God has placed in my care is my podcast and I also have a YouTube channel.
[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_01]: But what I'd like to do is talk about the five people that I'll be having on testimony Tuesday in the month of October.
[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have a young man Josiah Gallagos and some of you may know him he graduated from carousels as well.
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I have Steve August and he is a former NFL football player played nine years so if you have not heard him speak, I invite you to listen to that.
[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Then I have Don Smith another graduate from carousel coming on and then Rex and Karen Roney who recently graduated from carousel as well.
[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Rex third year global training and Karen finished second year and then finally Jeff Israel and he is going to be the first person that I've had on that is actually Jewish.
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And he considered himself a Christian I think he still considers himself a Christian but he has gone the messianic Jewish route.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: He wanted to find out about his heritage and that's a wonderful story so I invite you to tune in every Tuesday in the month of October and as far as my regular Bible reading goes.
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I am now over halfway through the King James Bible. I've read 580 chapters now and I'm right now in the book of Nehemiah and for those of you who have never checked that out, I invite you to go to my YouTube channel.
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the same as this wisdom today with Bill Kelly KEL, L.E. Y and then finally on my other podcast lessons from the songs I am through songs 70 so I'm almost halfway done making good progress and just enjoying every minute of it.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: One of the things I did want to bring up because this is actually almost an anniversary type issue is today is episode number 650 so I think that's kind of a milestone and on Monday's podcast Monday will complete two and a half years of my doing this podcast.
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So once we begin on Tuesday I'll be beginning the second half of my third year of this podcast. So I think that's a lot of fun.
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I would like to thank everyone who has ever tuned in and especially those who tune in on a regular basis. I appreciate you so much and I believe and hope that I am building into your life and helping you have a desire to get into the Word of God.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So, on we've reached a point where it's just about time to close. I always ask you to have a few minutes prior to closing so if you would just share with people why they need to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior if they've never taken that step as of right now.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_00]: If you've never made that choice I would really highly recommend it. I don't know how people live in this chaotic world without God in their life.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So if you are feeling a tug at your heart something saying I need something more than myself.
[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I have an empty hole. I've been trying to fill it up with other things, with activities, with entertainment, with money, with whatever.
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that I need to turn and find the Lord. I need to seek him and as if you seek him you will find him. He's not going to try to push you and make you do anything this is your choice.
[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_00]: So I would invite you just to invite him into your heart and say Lord Jesus. I ask you to come into my heart to be my Savior.
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I want to turn my life over to you. I want you to fill that empty space in my hole that no one but you can fill.
[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And I would like to follow you all the days of my life in Jesus name, amen.
[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Well that was really a blessing and I would like to make reference to Jeremiah chapter 29.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And many of you know verse 11, I know the plans I have for you plans to prosper you and note to harm you.
[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_01]: But verse 13 talks about what Judy just mentioned. If you seek him with all your heart, you will find him.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_01]: God wants you to find him. He wants you to be a part of everything in your life.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_01]: If you sit there and think of that verse that every hair on your head is numbered. That is how much God loves each and every one of us.
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Friends, we will be back on the 25th of October until then, made the Lord bless you and keep you.
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_01]: The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Friends, this is the weekend. Go out with your spouse. Take your kids with you. Let them know how much God loves them and how much you love them.
[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And I will see you back on Monday as we further explore wisdom today.
