613. Gospel of Luke - Chapter 12 (#2) - Trust the Holy Spirit - August 7, 2024

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 7. I will then key in on verse 24 - Now therefore, listen to me, my children; Pay attention to the words of my mouth. Friends, Here, I believe, Solomon is actually speaking to us as God would speak to us - calling us His children. Being His children, He is telling us the importance of reading scripture. On today's podcast we will continue our study of the Gospel, according to Luke. Today we will read verses 8-12 of Chapter 12. By the end of the podcast there are three things I ask that you consider:

1. Whoever confesses Jesus before men will be rewarded.

2. He who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

3. Trust the Holy Spirit.

Additional verses that I speak on in this podcast are: Isaiah 6:8 & Matthew 10:16 (Amplified).

Call to Action - Ask yourself if you are doing all that the Holy Spirit has called you to do (to further advance the Kingdom of God). If you are now sure of exactly what your purpose is here on Earth, seek God and ask Him - Father God - is there anything you have for me to do - that I am not currently doing (and begin heading in that direction).

[00:00:06] Welcome to Wisdom Today. My name is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. In this podcast we will be exploring the book of Proverbs. So, if an in prayer, Father God as we begin this podcast today, I pray that everyone listening today would be blessed.

[00:00:29] I pray Lord that everyone listening to this podcast, this specific podcast would have a desire to become better followers of you. That they would become better disciples of you and Father God that you place a fresh anointing upon the head of each individual.

[00:00:50] Lord that they would go out and do your work and further advance the kingdom of God. I ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Friends, this is Proverbs 7 beginning in verse 1.

[00:01:05] My son, keep my words and treasure my commands within you, keep my commands and live and my law as the apple of your eye.

[00:01:16] Find them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to Wisdom, you are my sister and call understanding your nearest kin that they may keep you from the immoral woman from the seductress who flatters with her words.

[00:01:35] For at the window of my house, I looked through the lattice and saw among this simple. I perceived among the youths a young man devoid of understanding, passing along the street near her corner.

[00:01:51] And he took the path to her house in the twilight in the evening in the black and dark night, and there a woman met him with the attire of a heart and a crafty heart.

[00:02:05] She was loud and rebellious. Her feet would not stay at home. At times she was outside, at times in the open square lurking at every corner.

[00:02:17] So she caught him and kissed him with an impudent face, she said to him, I have peace offerings with me. Today I have paid my bowels. So I came out to meet you diligently to seek your face.

[00:02:33] And I have found you. I have spread my bed with capustry, colored coverings of Egyptian linen. I have perfumed my bed with my mirror, alos and cinnamon.

[00:02:47] Come, let us take our fill of love until morning. Let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not at home. He has gone on a long journey. He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home on the appointed day.

[00:03:07] With her enticing speech, she caused him to yield with her flattering lips. She seduced him.

[00:03:15] Immediately he went after her as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to their correction of the stalks till an arrow struck his liver as a bird hastens to the snare. He did not know it would cost his life.

[00:03:34] By therefore, listen to me, my children, pay attention to the words of my mouth. Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways. Do not stray into her paths. For she has cast down many wounded and all who were slain by her were strong men. Her house is the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death.

[00:04:01] A friend's what I'd like to do is go over verse 24 and, Proverbs 7, verse 24 says this. Now therefore, listen to me, my children, pay attention to the words of my mouth.

[00:04:19] Friends, we will revisit that verse prior to closing today. What I'd like to do is continue on our study of the gospel according to Luke and pick up where we left off on Monday's podcast.

[00:04:34] And on Monday's podcast, we began chapter 12, a very, very powerful chapter of the Bible found in Luke's gospel. Today, I'm going to read five verses and I could argue that these five verses and all of them were spoken by Jesus himself. They're all in red letters.

[00:04:59] Are some of the most powerful verses in the entire Bible. These five verses are entitled, confess Christ before men. Let's begin with verse 8. Also, I say to you, whoever confesses me before men. Him, the Son of man also will confess before the angels of God.

[00:05:25] So, friends, the first point I'd like to bring up in this lesson is whoever confesses Jesus before men will be rewarded.

[00:05:36] Now, friends, I am reading out of the Nelson study Bible and I'd really like to go over the commentary for verse 8. It says, the issue here is faithfulness in testimony to Jesus.

[00:05:53] Especially in the context of religious rejection, acknowledging Jesus before men means being acknowledged by the Son of man before God.

[00:06:07] And friends, that means it is vital that when we speak about Jesus, we speak positively about Him. We let people know how Jesus has changed our lives and anyone who has received Him as their Lord and Savior knows the importance of having Jesus.

[00:06:32] Friends, we may not be changed in the twinkling of an eye. We may not change all of who we are and ordinarily it doesn't happen that way. The Bible says, behold, old things have passed away, all things have become new.

[00:06:49] But friends, it does take a while. It's a transition because once we receive Jesus and you enter in to the family of God, you have to have your mind transformed everything you believed everything that you have worked on and trusted your entire life.

[00:07:13] All of a sudden, now we have to relearn basically everything. So everything now has to be filtered through the Word of God and try to ask yourself, does what I believe and what I've always believed in my life line up with the Word of God?

[00:07:37] And if it doesn't, we need to scratch that out and begin living by the Word of God which is the truth. Let's look at verse 9, but he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. Now let's look at the commentary for verse 9, every act of denial of Christ on earth will meet

[00:08:06] with commensurate denial of reward at the judgment seat. This is not speaking of the gift, the salvation, but of the prize or reward. And Paul talks about that in one of his letters to the churches and he says, I have fought the good fight.

[00:08:30] Friends, we are to fight to receive rewards from heaven. The Bible talks about if you do good things that you are building a heavenly account.

[00:08:44] We should be setting our eyes and our deeds on things above and not things of this world. We need to get out of our flesh and begin to think in the spiritual realm. Let's go to verse 10, and anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him, but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit.

[00:09:13] The Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. And friends, people sometimes ask what is the unforgivable sin? And this is the one verse of the Bible that explains that to us. We cannot blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Let's look at the commentary for this very, very significant verse.

[00:09:43] A word against the Son of Man, meaning Jesus, is forgivable because His deity was bailed. But blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is flagrant rejection of the works and words of Christ.

[00:10:02] And friends, if you ever commit that sin, you will never be able to come back into His good graces. That is something that is inexcusable and we should never do. Let's go to verse 11.

[00:10:15] Now, when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities do not worry about how or what you should answer or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour, what you ought to say.

[00:10:34] So friends, before I get to point three, I just remember I did not mention point two. The point two was he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

[00:10:49] And friends, I can't over estimate the power of that thought. Let's look at three point three today is trust the Holy Spirit. Let me say it again, trust the Holy Spirit.

[00:11:06] Now, friends, I'm going to camp here for just a minute because I want to explain what I'm talking about. The Bible tells us in Revelation 12 verse 11 that people overcome by the blood of the Lamb, in other words Jesus and His shed blood on the cross at Calgary.

[00:11:25] And we are to overcome by the blood of Jesus, but also by our testimony. And that also reminds me of first Peter chapter three verse 15 that we are always to be ready to give and account of why we have the hope that is in us.

[00:11:47] Many people do not spread the good news of the gospel because they don't have the confidence that they can do it. This verse is telling us that the Holy Spirit will give us the words to say when we are witnesses.

[00:12:11] The Bible tells us in another place, I'm not sure exactly where it is right now. But he's saying the Holy Spirit will bring all things to our remembrance and friends that's also another very powerful verse.

[00:12:28] It's a powerful verse because the Holy Spirit is going to give us the words to say at the right time, every single time. In other words we need to understand how important it is to put our trust in the Holy Spirit.

[00:12:54] Friends, before we close today, I'm going to do things a little bit differently. My verse of the day today and today is the seventh of August and verse 24 says, now therefore listen to me, my children. And what I want to do here is, although Solomon is writing this, he's writing it, alms host as if he has got himself and he's saying, listen to me, my children.

[00:13:24] This is really God speaking to us and all of us are children in his sight, pay attention to the words of my mouth. Now friends, when this particular podcast publishes, it is going to be the seventh of August and friends, I am doing this in advance as I always do but the seventh of August, I will be celebrating my 67th birthday.

[00:13:54] And I thank God for every year that He has given me and what I'd like to do is actually say a prayer. But before I say a prayer, I'd like to go over two verses.

[00:14:08] I'd like to go over the book of Isaiah chapter 6 verse 8. And that verse says, also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send?

[00:14:21] And who will go for us? Then I said, here, am I send me now. Let's go to Gospel of Matthew chapter 10 verse 16 and this is the amplified. Listen to this. Listen carefully. I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be wise as servants and innocent as dogs.

[00:14:51] Meaning have no self-serving agenda. Now friends, this is podcast number 613 and arguably could be one of the best podcasts that I've ever had. The Lord spoke to me and told me to begin a podcast. He told me that way back in March of 2022.

[00:15:19] And I, the time I did not know what a podcast was. But the Holy Spirit knew what the podcast was. And I said, if you tell me to do it, I am going to do it. That's what Isaiah's verse here says,

[00:15:35] I want God to use me as a vessel to get his words out there. But this very important verse in Matthew tells us that we are going out as sheep among wolves.

[00:15:54] Friends, what does that mean? That means that we are in a spiritual battle every single day of our lives. Paul talks about that in the chapter of Ephesians chapter 6 and he says,

[00:16:09] As we must put on the full armor of God, everything we have. We have to put on the armor of God. We need to be prepared for what Satan is going to be coming against us every single day of our lives. We have to be ready.

[00:16:25] So what I'd like to do is actually pray over me as well as this podcast as well as everyone listening to this particular podcast today.

[00:16:40] So let's bow our heads in prayer. Father God, I want to thank you that you have given me life. I thank you for every day that you give me. Father God, I surrender my life to you.

[00:16:55] I pray that you use me as a mouthpiece to be your willing vessel to share the gospel to everyone listening today. Father God, I pray that this podcast would continue to be a mouthpiece for you.

[00:17:14] And Father God that it will continue to have eternal value for everyone who tunes in to this podcast on a regular basis.

[00:17:24] And Father God, I pray for everyone listening to this podcast today. Father God, I pray that your spirit would rush forth that they would sense your spirit that they would grow in you that they would develop wisdom that they would develop knowledge that they would become doors of the word and not here's only.

[00:17:48] I pray that they would hunger for you, hunger for your word, dig in to the word of God and become a better vessel for you use everyone listening to this podcast today to your glory in Jesus name.

[00:18:10] My friends, my call to action today. I want you to think about this are you using the power that God has given you the resources everything that he's given you are you using everything that you have to further advance the kingdom of God.

[00:18:36] Give that some thought. If you do not know your purpose on earth, if you still are having doubts why are you here. I pray that you reach out to God that you seek God and say Father God how can I be used by you what do you want me to do that I am not currently do.

[00:19:06] I pray that you are not currently doing and begin to do it. Friends, I will never end a podcast without giving anyone an opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

[00:19:19] If there is anyone listening today and you've never taken that step, I invite you to repeat a simple prayer after me today. Father God, I believe that you sent Jesus to earth.

[00:19:33] For everyone listening to this podcast today. I recognize that I am a sinner and in need of a Savior, Father God, I still need your help.

[00:19:44] I pray Jesus that you come into my heart, I ask the elite me and guide me from this point forward in my life. I make you my Lord and Savior and Holy Spirit become a part of me.

[00:20:02] I feel me with your spirit. Give me a fresh, annoying thing. Give me power in Jesus name. Friends, if you just said that prayer, I welcome you to the kingdom of God. God is going to use you in a powerful way.

[00:20:26] Now, may the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make us face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
