Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today We will be going over Proverb 19. I will then key in on verse 8 - He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good. Friends, Job is an example in the Bible of someone who had wisdom. He also had integrity. Today we will read the entire second chapter of the Book of Job. I will then go over the commentary in my Bible (the Nelson Study Bible) for verses 3, 9 & 10. Three takeaways from this lesson are:
1. satan will come after you - satan is in business for one thing - to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10). He will come against you in material things, in personal things, and in any way he can. Nothing hinders him from doing all he can to destroy your life.
2. Job & his wife were not on the same page - in verse 9 his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!" Awfully strong words! This was probably Job's biggest test - and yet he passed it. He maintained his integrity regardless of what satan threw at him.
3. It is important to have friends - I find this so commendable. It speaks to me of the friendship that Job has enriched these people with over the previous years. They were willing to sit with him for an entire week without saying a word. Very few of us have friends like this today. If you do not have friends like this, work on obtaining at least one close friend. My advice is to be discerning. Do they have a strong marriage? Are their kids well adjusted? Do you admire the person you are considering? Selecting a close friends is a very important decision. Choose wisely
Call to action: Consider Chapters 1 & 2 of Job. He had all of his material possessions taken away from him, his 10 children were all killed on the same day; and now his health is taken away from him. How would you respond? May I suggest that you consider being prepared to trust in God regardless of whether good or adversity comes in your life.
