343. Matthew's Gospel - Chapter 27 July 26, 2023

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 26. I will then key in on verse 13-15. These verses talking about the lazy man, and the extent of how far he will go with excuses of why he can't work. These verses remind us that being lazy is not a good thing. Today we will pick up where we left off yesterday. If you did not get a chance to listen to yesterday's podcast, I ask that you consider listening to that podcast prior to listening to this. We are going to go over three passages of scripture today - all found in the 27th chapter of Matthew. Verses 15-26 talk about taking the place of Barabbas. Pilate has come to the conclusion that Jesus is an innocent man and doesn't want anything to have to do with the sentencing of this man to death. He believes if he gives the crowd a choice of Barabbas or Jesus that they will have Jesus released. Barabbas was an insurrectionist. He was a career criminal and a murderer. However, when they chose Barabbas over Jesus, he allowed Jesus to be scourged. This process (the process of laying 39 stripes on the back of a criminal would often kill people. The process was so gruesome, many people couldn't make it through that. When the crowd still would not relent, Pilate washed his hands to make the effort of cleansing himself of the responsibility of sending Jesus to the cross. Call to action: close your eyes and go through the process of imagining everything you heard on today's podcast. Suggested scripture reading: 1.
