Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Friends, on today's podcast we will be going over Psalm 77. Psalm 77 was written by the psalmist Asaph, a praise & worship leader assigned by King David of Israel many years ago. This psalm was written to a man named Jeduthon, another praise and worship leader. As you read this psalm you will notice that the author is pretty down and out - and at times seems downright depressed. Let's break this psalm down. In verse 1 Asaph cries out to his God, and it says that God heard his prayer. This is a reminder to us today that we should seek the Lord as well. Verse 2 tells us that Asaph sought the Lord, but his should was not comforted. At times we may feel like God doesn't hear our prayer as well. Verse 3 tells us that Asaph is troubled. Something is going on in his life that is causing him anguish. Verse 4 gets even worse. It says he is so troubled he cannot speak. We often feel like this in our world today as well. In verses 5-9 Asaph asks if God will ever hear his voice again? I know I sometimes feel like that. Verses 10-15 remind us that God will eventually hear our prayer, and that He is our salvation. We simply need to be patient. If you continue in your prayers, you will eventually get the answers you need. Verses 16-19 remind us that God is the God even over the elements in life - the rain, the thunder, the lightning, even the seas. The psalm eventually concludes with the fact that God will deliver you from whatever storm (in your life) that you are currently going through.
