Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 67

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. On today's podcast we will be going over Psalm 67. Psalm 67 is an anonymous psalm (although it sounds very similar to psalms that David wrote). It is written to the chief musician and was originally meant to be played accompanied by stringed instruments. Psalm 67 is a glorious psalm and expresses very clearly what God would like from all of us (His people). Let's break this psalm down.
Verse 1 should be the plea of every living soul on earth - that God be merciful to us and that He bless us! It adds that His face shine on us. That sounds marvelous to me. In verse 2 the author pleads to God that all people come to know His salvation (which we now know if His son Jesus Christ). Verses 3 & 5 are identical - and are prophetic verses indicating that there will come a day that all people on earth would come together (as one) and praise God. Verse 4 tells us that we are to be glad and sing for joy (if you have receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior this should be a given). It goes on to add that we will one day be held accountable for the type of life we lived while on earth. Our goal should be to please God in all that we do. Jumping to verse 6 God tells us that if we have received Him (and His son) into our lives that we will be more productive in our lives (and happier, as well). Verse 7 closes with another prophetic verse informing us that, once again all people on earth will one day "fear" Him. Fear here doesn't mean that we are afraid of God, but that we reverence Him for who He is, and that we are thankful for all that He has done for us.
