Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. On today's podcast we will be looking at Psalm 62. This psalm is attributed to King David and was written to Jeduthun - the chief of one of the choirs in the temple. That means that this psalm was originally sung as a song in the temple. Psalm 62 is a wisdom psalm - thus it has the characteristics of a proverb (rather than a psalm). Several things that I would like to bring out about this psalm is that David refers to God as his rock and salvation three times in this psalm. In verses 3 & 4 David literally is prophetically speaking to his tormentors (or enemies) and asking if they will ever stop their unrelenting deeds against him? Verses 9 & 10 speak about the infallibility of man - and how regardless of how much adulation we might receive on Earth - in light of eternity only God truly does great things. We close with verse 12 - which speaks of the need for us to have mercy on people. Jesus had mercy on us, and we should also have mercy on those who are less fortunate than we are.
