Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 50

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 50. Psalm 50 is one of 12 psalms attributed to Asaph, a worship leader appointed by King David when he was the King of Israel many years ago. It is known as a wisdom psalm. It is also one of a number of psalms that differentiate between people who "fear God" and live their lives like they do and those that don't (either they don't believe there is a God, or do not consider Him when making any of the decisions they make in life). The first 15 verses of this psalm is for those who do fear God. God makes it very clear that He wants them to praise Him. He reminds them He is the creator of all. He does not need physical food, but wants people to recognize their need for their spirits. Verses 16-22 talk about people who do not consider God - they steal from others, they hate instruction, they spread gossip, they slander people. One key point, many of these people believe God is like them - He is not. God inhabits the praises of His people - He will never be found where sin is present in the world.
