Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 42

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be taking a look at Psalm 42. Psalm 42 is the first psalm of Book 2 of the Psalms. It is attributed to the sons (ancestors) of Korah. The author (poet) mentions in the psalm that he is currently attend and worship in the synagogue. That is because his ancestor (Korah) had rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness and was killed. In verse 1 it mentions that a deer is panting as it reaches the water. This infers that he has been running (from people hunting him) and that he is out of breath. The implication is that the author is thirsting for God. He senses that he is currently far away of God and is desperate to once again feel His presence. Friends, if you are feeling this way, may I suggest 2 things:
1. That you seek God in prayer (the Bible) promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
2. That you praise Him (the Bible) tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people.
