Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 4. Psalm 4 is closely knit with Psalm 3. They were both written by King David and were probably written pretty close together. In verse 1. David reveals the intimate relationship that he has with his God. Psalm 4 is the first psalm that was written to the chief musician. That indicates that this psalm was originally one of the psalm that was to be sung - and was to be accompanied by stringed instruments. In verses 2-5 it appears that King David is making intercession for the unbelievers of his day. He prays that they will come to trust in God - as we are to do today. Finally we close with verses 6-8. In these verses, David implies that only by having a true, intimate relationship with God can one truly come to have the joy of the Lord, a feeling of safety, and the peace that Paul refers to as passing all understanding.
