Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms. Today we will be going over Psalm 20. Psalm 20 was written by David, who was a king of Israel. Before he was a king, though, he was a general of the army working for his predecessor, King Saul. I believe the first five verses of this psalm refer to David praying a blessing over soldiers as they are preparing for battle. However, I believe he could also be talking to any one of us today. Verse one makes reference to the day of trouble. Friends, we all have trouble in our lives - things that come into our lives that are unexpected and are sometimes devastating to our lives. David reassures us that God will be with us during those times. In verse 6 he refers to the Lord saves His anointed. This is referring to people to turn to God and seek Him when they have trouble come into their lives. Verse 7 refers to people who are prevalent in our society today - people who look unto themselves and not to God when they have a need. Verse 8 tells us these people will ultimately fail, while the second part of that verses says that "we" (meaning Christians looking to God) have risen and stand upright. We close with verse 9 - which tells us that those that call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Look to Him in your time of need.
