Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 120

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 120. Psalm 120 is the first of 15 consecutive psalms which, collectively, are entitled the Songs of Ascent. Psalm 120 is an anonymous psalm and is entitled Plea for Relief from Bitter Foes. To begin I will read the psalm in its entirety. I will come away with three takeaways:
1. In my distress I cried to the Lord, and He heard me (friends, if you are ever in a situation where you are anxious (or fearful) you should immediately go to the Lord in prayer. We are to put our trust in Him (and in Him alone). He will hear you.
2. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue (it doesn't matter who we are - we will never be able to please everyone around us (and there will always be people who don't like us - and may speak evil of us). We cannot allow them to bring us down, and dwell on what these people are doing). We should pray for them, but we should be aware (at all times) of who we are (in Christ) and dwell on the fact that He is always on our side.
3. Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar (once again, we all live in a fallen world. There will always be people (in our midst) that are evil people. That is their nature, and some people simply are not interested in doing good. We should (once again) pray for these people - but we cannot let their presence affect our lives, and make us anxious. We should, instead , praise the Lord, and know that He is always with us.
