Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 118. Psalm 118 is the 8th consecutive psalm that, collectively, are entitled the Passover Psalms, or the Hallel psalms. Each of these psalms is anonymous, but they are all psalms of praise. The commentary of my Bible (the Nelson Study Bible) states that Jesus may actually have sung these psalms the night prior to his crucifixion. Prior to reading this psalm I ask that you find a comfortable place to sit and meditate while I read the psalm in its entirety. Psalm 118 is very appropriate for our world today. Three takeaways from this psalm are:
1. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? (verse 6 - Friends, we need to put our trust in God alone, and not be concerned with what man thinks of us).
2. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man (verse 8 - Friends, man will let us down (even our best friends, or our spouse) - we need to put our trust solely in the Lord.
3. This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it (verse 24 - friends, I encourage you to have this thought in your mind each and every day throughout the day. We should rejoice, and be glad in Him!
