Lessons From the Psalms - Psalm 101

Welcome to Lessons From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Psalm 101. Psalm 101 was written by King David of Israel. He is often known as a man after God's own heart. After reading the psalm in its entirety I will break the psalm down. Verse 1 tells us that David will sing of mercy and justice - a good thing as he is king of the land. Verse 2 tells us that his intent is to behave wisely in a "perfect" way. Of course, we can never be perfect, but he has the right idea. Verse 3 is David's declaration to God that he will, to the best of his ability, avoid setting his eyes on things that are wicked. Verse 5 is a reminder to us that we should not slander our neighbors - but should be kind and loving towards them. Verse 6 is David giving us the example that we are to have people surrounding us that will be faithful to us (and have our best interests in their heart). Verse 7 tells us that we should not spend too much time around people that cannot be trusted. Verse 8 closes with the fact that we should put people who are evil off of our "grid" - try to avoid them as much as you can.
