Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 16. I will then key in on verse 7. When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. As Jesus's time on Earth was coming to an end, he wanted to do something that would rattle his disciples. In John Chapter 13, verses 1-17 I will read this passage of scripture in its entirety. Jesus laid his outer garments aside and literally washed the feet of each of his disciples. It was a display that we are to be servants and that we should have that spirit in our hearts. From this passage I believe there are three things that we can take away from this example: 1. We need to take our focus off of ourselves. In the world we presently live in the world will scream at us, "What's in it for me?" This question is totally the wrong question. We need to look at people of this world and do all we can to show them the love of Jesus. You do that by showing the love that Jesus displayed in this action. 2. We need to love other people. In continuation of the above, if we take the focus off of ourselves and onto other people, and look at people as through the eyes of Jesus, we will learn that our desires are really not as important as we think they are. Finally, 3. We need to bear each others burdens. If we see that people are in need we need to help people out whenever it is our power to do so. John 13:34 tells us the new commandment: A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. I'll take a peak back at verse 7 and reread it and close with a short passage from the gospel of Matthew Chapter 5: verses 43-48. This verse tells us that we are actually to love our enemies and pray for those that persecute us. In and of ourselves, we cannot do that, but, through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives inside each of us, we can do this.
