[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Lessons From The Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. On this podcast we will be going over the book of Psalms.

[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_00]: This is Psalm 68, beginning in verse 1. The glory of God in His goodness to Israel is the title of this song.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered, let those also who hate Him flee before Him as smoke is driven away, so drive them away as wax melts before the fire.

[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad, let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Sing to God, sing praises to His name, extoll Him who rides on the clouds by His name, yaw and rejoice before Him. A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: God sets the solitary in families. He brings out those who are bound into prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. Oh God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness, say maw.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: The earth shook, the heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God. Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: You, O God, sent a plentiful rain whereby you confirmed your inheritance when it was weary. Your congregation dwelt in it. You, O God, provided from your goodness for the poor.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: The Lord gave the word. Great was the company of those who proclaimed it.

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Kings of armies flee, they flee and she who remains at home divides the spoil. Though you lie down among the sheepfolds, you will be like the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: When they all mighty scattered kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon. A mountain of God is the mountain of the shan. A mountain of many peaks is the mountain of the shan. Why do you fume with envy? You mountains of many peaks. This is the mountain which God desires to dwell in. Yes, the Lord will dwell in it forever.

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: The chariots of God are 20,000. Even thousands of thousands. The Lord is among them as in Sinai in the holy place. You have ascended on high. You have led captivity captive. You have received gifts among men, even from the rebellious that the Lord God might dwell there.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits. The God of our salvation, say, long. Our God is the God of salvation, and to God the Lord belong escapes from death.

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But God will wound the head of his enemies. The hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: The Lord said, I will bring back from the shan. I will bring them back from the depths of the sea.

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: That your foot may crush them in blood and the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from your enemies.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: They have seen your procession, oh God, the procession of my God, my king into the sanctuary. The singers went before the players on instruments followed after.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Among them were the maidens playing timbres. Bless God in the congregations, the Lord from the fountain of Israel.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: There is little Benjamin, there later the princes of Judah and their company, the princes of Zebulin and the princes of Nath to lie.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Your God has commanded your strength. Strengthen, oh God, what you have done for us.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Because of your temple at Jerusalem, kings will bring presence to you, rebuke the beasts of the reads.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples, till everyone submits himself with pieces of silver.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Scatter the peoples who delight in war. On boys will come out of Egypt. Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Sing to God, you kingdom of the earth. O sing praises to the Lord, to him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Indeed, he sends out his voice a mighty voice, a scribe strength to God. His excellence is over Israel and his strength is in the clouds. Oh God, you are more awesome than your holy places.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to his people. Blessed be God.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Friends, Psalm 68 is a scribe to King David who was king over Israel many years ago. He was the father of King Solomon who wrote the majority of the book of Proverbs and also is known as the writer of Ecclesiastes.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: But this is a wonderful Psalm and it's entitled the glory of God in his goodness to Israel.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So basically the theme of this song is portrayed in the first, as well as the last verses. Let's just go over verse 1, let God arise, let his enemies be scattered.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Let those also who hate him flee before him. And basically what this is saying is that God is going to be victorious over your enemies.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: We can hang on to the promises of Psalm 68 today. God is going to take care of our needs and he will help us in our time of need against our enemies.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to the last verse verse 35. Oh God, you are more awesome than your holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to his people. Blessed be God.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And friends, if you put your trust in the living God or in his son Jesus, you will be in good shape. What I'd like to do since this is such a long Psalm is just basically go over a few of the verses.

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's look quickly at verse 4. It says, sing to God, sing praises to his name, extol him who writes on the clouds by his name, yaw and rejoice before him. Now yaw here is short for the name yaw way.

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And that is how people love that time used to refer to God as yaw way. But basically God inhabits the praises of his people.

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you want to sense his presence in your life, we are the same praises to him. The earth shook the heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God. Signi itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So basically here, verse 8 is telling us that God is going to provide rain on the earth. He is going to say that we are well watered in our lives as well.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I like verse 11, the Lord gave the word. Great was the company of those who proclaimed it and here we could be referring to Jesus Christ. The Lord gave the word. Jesus is known as the word.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to verse 19, blessed be the Lord who daily loads us with benefits. The God of our salvation, say law.

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Say law always tells us to meditate on what we just read. And what this is saying is the God of our salvation. Now we know salvation now through God's Son Jesus.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Jesus died at Calvary for us. We deserve to die and yet he took our place on the cross.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I like verses 21 and 22, but God will wound the head of his enemies. The hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The Lord said, I will bring back from the shan. I will bring them back from the depths of the sea. And friends, we all have issues in our life. We often find some people are against us.

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's out of envy or jealousy, or it just means we may have a different personality as them.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_00]: But God is going to be aware of who it is that we're having issues with and he will give us an avenue of escape. So we can overcome these people who do come against us.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's close with verse 28, your God has commanded your strength. Strengthen a God what you have done for us.

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Think about that. God has given us strength and power to overcome anything that the enemy throws at us.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Friends, please join me again soon as we take a closer look at Psalm 16.
