[00:00:07] Welcome to Lessons From The Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. On this podcast we will be going over the book of Psalms. But in prayer, Father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this Psalms day.

[00:00:26] Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This is Psalm 60, beginning in verse 1.

[00:00:40] Oh God, you have cast us off. You have broken us down. You have been displaced. Oh restore us again. You have made the earth tremble. You have broken it. Heal its breaches for it is shaking.

[00:00:58] You have shown your people hard things. You have made a string, the wine of confusion. You have given a banner to those who fear you that it may be displayed because of the truth. Say law that your beloved may be delivered.

[00:01:18] Save with your right hand and hear me. God has spoken in His holiness. I will rejoice. I will divide shekam and measure out the valley of succuth. Guilied is mine and Manasseh is mine. F. R. I. M. Also is the helmet for my head.

[00:01:41] Judah is my logiver. Moab is my wash pot. Over-eat him, I will cast my shoe. F. Listeria, shout in triumph because of me. Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to eat him? Is it not you, oh God, who cast us off?

[00:02:05] And you, oh God, who did not go with our armies? Give us help from trouble for the help of man is useless. Through God, we will do valiantly for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

[00:02:25] Friends, Psalm 60 is yet another Psalm that is attributed to King David. And the text for Psalm 60 why David actually wrote this Psalm is found in the book of 2 Samuel chapter 8.

[00:02:42] Let's break this Psalm down. The first three verses say, oh God, you have cast us off. You have broken us down. You have been displaced. Oh restore us again.

[00:02:57] You have made the earth tremble. You have broken it. Heal its breaches for it is shaking. You have shown your people hard things. You have made a strength, the wine of confusion.

[00:03:13] And friends in a nutshell, these three verses talk about a defeat of the army of Israel. They have just been defeated and the people of Israel are a bit confused.

[00:03:28] They felt that with King David and his army and God fighting for them that they would never experience defeat. They were not used to it. Let's go on to verse 4.

[00:03:40] You have given a banner to those who fear you that it may be displayed because of the truth. Say, law that your beloved may be delivered. Save with your right hand and hear me.

[00:03:56] Now these two verses are reassurance that even though the army of Israel has been defeated, the Israelites believe that there is hope and that David's army will ultimately prevail.

[00:04:12] Let's go to verse 6. God has spoken in his holiness. I will rejoice. I will divide, check him and measure out the valley of succuth.

[00:04:25] Gilead is mine and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the helmet for my head. Judah is my logiver. Moab is my washpot overedum. I will cast my shoe.

[00:04:41] Philistia shout in triumph because of me. Now these three verses, God is telling David that he is in charge. These are all the countries and neighboring areas around where David and his Israelite army are.

[00:05:02] These are under God's control and God says, David, I've got this covered. It's going to be okay. Let's go to verse 9. Who will bring me to the strong city?

[00:05:17] Who will lead me to eat him? Is it not you, O God who cast us off? And you, O God who did not go out with our armies? So David here is asking God why weren't you with us? How did you allow this to happen?

[00:05:40] But let's go to verses 11 and 12. Give us help from trouble for the help of man is useless. What verse 11 is telling us reminds me of,

[00:05:54] the word of man, the word of man brings a snare. Friends, we cannot concern ourselves with what other people think about us but we only need to be concerned with what God is dealing with us about and we need to put our trust in God and not in man. Let's close with verse 12.

[00:06:19] Through God, we will do valiantly for it is he who shall tread down our enemies. And David encapsulates this entire Psalm by speaking with God and confirming with God that God is still sovereign and he will take care of our enemies or anything else that is going on in our life.

[00:06:49] We occupy our time thinking about. Friends, please join me again soon as we take a closer look at Psalm 61.
