[00:00:07] Welcome to Lessons From The Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. On this podcast we will be going over the book of Psalms. Let's open and prayer. Father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this song today.

[00:00:27] Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This is Psalm 53, beginning in verse 1.

[00:00:42] The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt and have done a bonnetable iniquity. There is none who does good. God looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who understand who seek God.

[00:01:03] Every one of them has turned aside. They have together become corrupt. There is none who does good. No, not one. Have the workers of aniquity, no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon God.

[00:01:24] There they are in great fear where no fear was. For God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you. You have put them to shame because God has despised them.

[00:01:41] O that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion when God brings back the captivity of his people. Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

[00:01:56] Friends, Psalm 53 is attributed to David and Psalm 53 is almost identical to Psalm 14. A matter of fact in my Bible, Psalm 14 is entitled, Folly of the Godless and God's final triumph.

[00:02:18] Psalm 53 is entitled, Folly of the Godless and the Restoration of Israel. So let's break Psalm 53 down and then I'm going to make a slight comparison between Psalms 14 and Psalm 53.

[00:02:38] The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt and have done a bonnet of the Holy Spirit. There is none who does good.

[00:02:51] And friends, I am reading out of the Nelson study Bible and verse 1, the commentary says in the Bible, the term fool does not indicate mental incompetence, but moral and spiritual in sensitivity. The fool is the one who ignores God.

[00:03:16] And friends, this is happening more and more in our world today. Our present government is trying to take God out of every aspect of our lives.

[00:03:29] And we need to take a stand. We, as Christians, need to take a stand and let people know that we are Christians and we stand for the Word of God.

[00:03:41] Verse 2, God looks down from heaven upon the children of man to see if there are any who understand who see God.

[00:03:52] Friends, God looks at every single thing we do. He wants to see if we are righteous individuals. If we are doing things the way that he would like for us to do them or if we are following the ways of the world.

[00:04:09] Verse 3, every one of them has turned aside. They have together become corrupt. There is none who does good. No not one.

[00:04:23] Now friends, I believe that is not really true. I will say this. We all make mistakes and there are many, many people in our world today who live life to be righteous people and to help people and to do good all the time.

[00:04:44] And yet we all fall short from time to time and make mistakes. Verse 4, have the workers of an equity, no knowledge who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon God.

[00:05:03] Friends, many people in our world today have fallen away from God and they don't ask God for anything. They don't pray to God, they don't ask Him for help and friends this song is a reminder that we need to do that. Let's look at verse 5.

[00:05:25] There they are in great fear where no fear was for God has scattered the bones of Him who encamps against you. You have put them to shame because God has despised them.

[00:05:44] And friends, verse 5 is the real difference between song 14 and song 53. Now what I'd like to do is read the commentary in my Bible for verses 4 and 5.

[00:06:00] God has scattered the bones. This is a prophetic pronouncement of the final judgment on the wicked. Those who did not fear God will be filled with great fear.

[00:06:16] For God will come in His glory and power. One day there will be no more wickedness to contaminate the earth or to compromise the people of God.

[00:06:31] Let's close with verse 6, O that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion. When God brings back the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

[00:06:49] Once again, we are referring to Jesus here. Jesus is our salvation. He died on that cross and when he died on that cross it was just outside of Jerusalem and that is Zion.

[00:07:06] But we can look to Jesus the author and finish your of our faith. He is our salvation. Friends, please join me again soon as we take a closer look at song 54.
