409. Job - Chapter #5 - God Chastens Those He Loves - October 26, 2023

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 26. I will then key in on verse 2 - Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight. Friends, this verse reminds me of Proverb 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit. Our words are so powerful. We can bring forth death (or curses) or life with the words we speak. Conversely, we can also have people come against us and say words against us (curse us). These words will not take root unless we give into fear and receive them with our words. On today's podcast we will resume our study on the Book of Job. I will read Chapter 5 in its entirety. After reading the chapter I ask that you consider the following points:

1. Our words are so important - choose your words carefully before you open your mouth. We can actually bring curses upon people if we spew out negative words.

2. Eliphaz suggests Job had bad things happen in his life because of sin in his life - Job lived many years prior to Jesus being born. That being the case, he was not filled with the Holy Spirit, neither did he have Jesus dwelling inside of him. He did not have the advantage that we, as Spirit-filled believers now have.

3. We need to seek God in prayer in our time of need - as we've learned through this podcast, bad things sometimes happen to good people. There is simply so much evil in our world, and the fact is that we live in a fallen world. How we respond in our time of need will be the determining factory in whether we live positive, influential, full lives, or whether we become bitter.

4. God will chastise us. If you put your trust in God, He will sometime chastise you because of something you say, or something you do. We should welcome the chastisement of the Lord. It is for our own good, and many times we can learn from it. Sometimes when He does this, He keeps us from further harm and He is actually protecting us.

5. God will give us a long life. Friends, putting your trust in God will lead you to a better, more relaxed life. Because of this there will be less wear and tear on you. You will ease gradually into old age. (You will look younger than other people your age).

Call to action - Where are you in this process? Do you seek God when you have a need? Have you developed a habit of praying to God on a regular basis?
