Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be looking at Proverb 21. I will then key in on verse 2 - Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts. Friends, I know that most of us mean to do well every day. But the Lord will ultimately prevail. This verse tells us that He weighs the hearts. He wants to know what our motives are when we do things. He wants to have an intimate relationship with us. He want us to seek Him and His Word in our lives. In Proverb 23: verse 7 it says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Friends, we need to get to the place where we begin to think the way the Lord thinks. And - we can do that! as we get into His word and seek Him on a regular basis. Today we will explore the 16th chapter of Matthew's gospel. I will key in primarily on verses 13-20. This is where Peter tells Jesus that He is the Christ, the son of the living God. Jesus goes on to commend Peter. This is really where, I believe, Peter is called to the ministry. Yet only a few verses later Jesus is rebuking Peter for thinking the way that man thinks, and not as God thinks. This is a very important lesson that we all can learn from today. In verses 24-27 Jesus is telling us that we need to stop leaning on our own understanding (see Proverb 3: verses 5-6) and begin to lean on Jesus in everything we do in life! Call to action: Ask God where you are in your faith today? Are you putting your trust in Jesus? Is He truly the most important priority in your life? Suggested scripture reading: 1. Reread Proverb 21 in its entirety - read each verse slowly and meditate on them; 2. Reread the entire 16th chapter of the gospel of Matthew ( and meditate on every word that is highlighted in red).
