139. We need to Learn to be Patient - October 12, 2022

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley.  Today we will be going over Proverb 12.  I will then key in on verse 11:  He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.  This verse happens to be talking about farmers - but can be translated in today's terms to anyone who has secured a job and is earning a living by working.  Whether you work for an employer or own your own business, if you work diligently you will be compensated and God will make sure that your needs are met.  I will then transition into our study of the book of James.  We will continue in Chapter 5.  I read the first six verses on Monday's podcast and will go over verses 7-12 today.  After reading these verses in their entirety, I will go over three concepts that I believe we can learn from what James is telling us:  1.  We need to learn to be patient.  I will reread verses 7 & 8.  I will address the fact that, when James penned these words, Jesus (his half-brother) had already been crucified and people were anxiously awaiting Jesus's return.  They were on watch and were expecting Him to return at any time.  James is telling us that we should learn to be patient - as farmers have to learn to be patient.  I will introduce the term seed time and harvest.  Many of us have heard that term, but may not know the context of that verse in the Bible.  I will go back to the book of Genesis and begin reading in Chapter 8, verse 15.  Noah and his family are on the ark and are waiting for the flood waters to recede so they can once again put their feet on solid ground.  I will read verses 15 through the end of the chapter and continue reading through the first couple of verses of Chapter 9.  The famous verse of seed time and harvest is actually found in Chapter 8, verse 22.  2.  We can learn from Job.  Even though Job had lost everything - his family, his possessions, and his health, He continued to put his faith in God.  I will read Job Chapter 13: verses 13-16.  As most of us know, once Job repented and admitted that God was God, and that he was not, God restored him two-fold of what he had had at the beginning of Job (he was the wealthiest man on Earth at the time). 3.  We are to keep our word.  Do not commit to something, unless you know you can keep your commitments.
