Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms. Today we will be going over Psalm 8. I will then break this psalm down. First of all, it was written by King David. It was written to the chief musician and originally was to be sung as a hymn and to be accompanied by some sort of instrument. The first and last first begin and end with the same words - words that should reflect the relationship that we have with our heavenly Father, God. Verses 3-5 remind us that God is the creator of not only Earth, but all of the skies, the sun, the moon, and the stars, the Milky Way, and the Solar System. He also created the seas and everything in them. Yet, David asks with everything that God created who is man, that God should be mindful of us. But David spells it out. He tells us that God's original plan was that he made man and woman and He made us to have dominion over all of the Earth (including over all creatures on the Earth), as well as the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. God made man to take care of His creation, but He also wanted to have fellowship with us. That is why David is so thankful for God, the Earth, the relationship he has with God - and so should we be thankful.
