Lessons from the Psalms - Psalm 6

Welcome to Lessons from the Psalms. This is Bill Kelley, and I 'll be your host. Today we will take a look at Psalm 6. This psalm, written by King David, a king of Israel was written about 3,000 years ago. My question to you today is - Is this psalm relevant to us today? As I go about my every day life trying to share the good news of the gospel, I often ask people if they ever read the Bible? Many people say that the Bible is outdated, and that it isn't relevant today. True story - people actually feel that way. Not so with this psalm. In this psalm David seems to be upset with himself because he has made a mistake of some kind. He pleads with God that He will forgive him. Many people feel that way about God today in their relationship with Him. If they make a mistake (and we all do make mistakes) they feel that God is mad at them and won't forgive them. Nothing could be further from the truth. God wants and intimate relationship with each and every one of us. If we make a mistake today, or if you are depressed today, say a simple prayer to God. Tell Him what's on your mind. He wants to know what you're thinking and how you're feeling. If you've made a mistake, ask Him to forgive you, and He will. Many times when we make mistakes, we feel that everyone is watching us and aware of what we've done. Friends, you are not as important as you think you are. God loves you, but most people aren't watching your every move. I recommend you seek God on a regular basis and just "hang out with Him". He will see you through the good times - as well as the bad times. He is on your side - and the Bible promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you.
