[00:00:07] Welcome to Lessons From The Psalms. This is Bill Kelley and I'll be your host. On this podcast we will be going over the book of Psalms. Let's open and prayer. Father God, I thank you for anyone listening to this song today.
[00:00:27] Lord, I pray that you would reveal to everyone listening how much you truly love each and every one of them. May ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This is Psalm 62, beginning in verse 1.
[00:00:42] Truly, my soul silently waits for God. From him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved.
[00:00:59] How long will you attack, Amen? You shall be slain. All of you, like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his high position.
[00:01:13] They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Say, law. My soul waits silently for God alone.
[00:01:26] For my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory. The rock of my strength and my refuge is in God.
[00:01:47] Trust in him at all times, you people, pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Say, law.
[00:01:59] Surely, men of low degree are a vapor. Men of high degree are a lie. If they are weighed on the scales, they are all together lighter than vapor. Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery.
[00:02:18] If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. God has spoken once twice. I have heard this that power belongs to God. Also to you, O Lord, belongs mercy. This soul is entitled a calm resolve to wait for the salvation of God.
[00:03:18] Over all enemies, because salvation is found only in him. Because one of the leaders of the choir, we know that this soul originally was intended to be sung in the temple. Our friends, what I'd like to do is break this soul down. Verse, viverse. Let's begin in verse 1.
[00:04:28] This soul is attributed to King David and David is telling us that God is the only person that we truly can rely upon.
[00:04:58] The body and our lives will let us down from time to time. But God is faithful. God will never let us down. Let's go to verses 3 and 4.
[00:05:11] How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his high position. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Say, law.
[00:05:56] To God, but He wants God to reveal to Him, are these enemies ever going to stop. But let's go to verses 5 and 6. It says, my soul waits silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.
[00:06:17] He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be moved. Friends, verse 6 is exactly like verse 2 with the exception. The verse 2 says, I shall not be greatly moved and verse 6 says, I shall not be moved. So friends, this is the reminder that things are going to happen in our lives.
[00:06:44] And we are going to feel at times that we're overwhelmed with the circumstances that life brings us. We are totally overwhelmed, but David is telling us to be patient.
[00:06:59] Relie on the Lord and He will take care of things for you. Verse 7 is very similar in God is my salvation and my glory, the rock of my strength and my refuge is in God.
[00:07:18] Now friends, we have gone through seven verses of Psalm 62 and this is the third reference that God is my salvation. Now we know in reality that Jesus is the Savior of the world. He is our salvation.
[00:07:37] At this time, Jesus was not present. David only knew God. So at the beginning, only God really was our salvation.
[00:07:50] But keep in mind that Jesus was also present at the beginning of the world, but He had not been introduced to man. So David was not aware of Him. Let's go to verse 8.
[00:08:03] Trust in Him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us, say law. And once again, I'm going to bring out the fact that God is a refuge. He is our safety. He's our safety net. We can always rely on God.
[00:08:30] Now listen to verses 9 and 10. This is very interesting. Surely men of low degree are a vapor. Men of high degree are a lie if they are weighed on the scales.
[00:08:45] They are all together lighter than vapor. Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery. Now friends, my take on these two verses is that we all strive to do the best that we can with the ability that God has given each and every one of us.
[00:09:09] I believe, when he's talking about men of high degree, he may be talking about people who have more schooling than us. People who are doctors or have doctoral degrees.
[00:09:22] But this verse is literally telling us that no matter what training or instruction or background or education you have, nothing we do can compare to the wisdom of God.
[00:09:38] If riches increase, do not set your heart on them. Now friends, I'll get right to the point. It does not matter how many material possessions you obtain or accrue while you are on earth.
[00:09:56] When you break your last honor earth, you will not bring anything with you. The only thing that matters is loving God and loving people. People are much more important than any materialistic items that we have.
[00:10:16] Let's close with verses 11 and 12. God has spoken once. Twice, I have heard this that power belongs to God. Also to you, O Lord, belongs mercy for you render to each one according to his work.
[00:10:36] Now friends, what I'd like to do is make a comment on that last verse. It says, render to each one according to his work.
[00:10:45] Now friends, I feel the need to bring this out. Many people live their entire lives and do not do what God has called them to do. They simply go to work and they come home Monday through Friday every week, week after week and absolutely hate what they do.
[00:11:05] What I'd like to do is go to the book of Colossians chapter 3 and I want to read verses 23 and 24. And whatever you do, do it hardly as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord, you will receive the reward of the inheritance.
[00:11:27] For you serve the Lord Christ, but he who does wrong will be repay for what he has done. There is no partiality.
[00:11:39] So friends, if you happen to be one of these individuals I am referring to that you go to work and hate your job, may I suggest you change your attitude just a bit, begin to go to work with a smile on your face.
[00:11:56] And instead of working for man, you literally are working for God and for his son Jesus. Friends, please join me again soon as we take a closer look at Psalm 63.
