Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 26. I will then key in on verse 17: He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears. Whether you have a dog, or not, may I suggest you don't tug him on his ears. I'm not sure how he'll react - but you might get bitten. Instead, we are to be peacemakers (see Mathew 5:9). We will be going over the account of Jesus walking on the water. This story is found in three of the gospels: Mathew 14: verses 22-33; Mark 6: 45-52; and John 6: 15-21. This is a wonderful example of something that I have been trying to emphasize on my podcasts (if you have a favorite passage of scripture I recommend that you cross-reference that story and see if it is located in other gospels. If it is, there is a good chance that some of the questions that you have may be answered. I seriously ask that you consider looking at each of the gospels and reading the different accounts. I will read each gospel's version of this story in their entirety. I will then highlight a few things from each of the accounts: 1. in John's gospels it mentions (in verse 15) He perceived that the people wanted to make Him king. Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord or Lords, but He had no interest in being King of the Romans. In verse 21, this account is the only one that states that as soon as He got in the boat, the entire boat was translated to the shore where they were going; 2. In Mark's gospel there are three miracles in this short passage (a. He saw the disciples struggling in the boat - even though it was around midnight and they were 3-4 miles from where He was at; b. Jesus walked on the water (even though Jesus was the son of God the Word tells us that He emptied Himself and became like any other man. I don't know of many men that can walk on the water! c. As soon as He got into the boat the storm and waves ceased. 3. In Mathew's gospel, we find out that Peter also walked on the water - this is the ONLY gospel where this happens. The reason why I would like to recommend that you look at the different accounts in each gospel is that I really like the fact that Peter had the gumption to actually walk on the water and that in John's account of this story the boat and all the disciples were immediately translated onto the shore where they were going.
